Open since 1855, we know that the Beigel shop in Brick Lane is the oldest beigel bakery in the UK. The oldest we have been able to find in North America dates from around 1900, but what about Europe? Following the Holocaust and the pogroms the art of Bagel baking had died out. Even in Poland the ancestral home of the roll with a hole, the skills had been lost to such an extent that a British bagel baker had to go ther to teach them how to make them.

This means that it is possible that this beigel shop is noe the oldest bagel bakery in the world, that is still in use today.
